Spill liquid or water on your apple or pc laptop? Not a problem. One of our techs, Jim, has developed a 3-step process that gives CompuTechs+ a 95% laptop repair success rate for laptops. The process takes just a few hours to complete, and we’ve been blown away by its success. Best part is that if you do have liquid damage on your mac laptop, just mention this post & if the repair is not successful you will get a discounted diagnostic rate from $69.99 down to $39.99 – We’re that confident with our process. If successful, then the rate is our current $199.99 flat-repair-rate.

What to do if you spill on your laptop: Turn the laptop off immediately, unplug it, remove battery (if possible), and shake out any excess liquid. After that, place rice in a tub, and place a single layer of paper towels on the rice, and place the laptop upside down on the paper towels. Leave for 2-7 days, depending on the amount of liquid spilled on the machine. We do not recommend attempting to turn the laptop on, mainly because there could be excess liquid still remaining inside the laptop. Better safe than sorry, but if you have a $1500+ laptop, our flat-repair rate is well worth the cost.

What kind of liquids are the worst? We’ve found that although smelly & sticky, that anything other than water seems to have the least amount of damage on the machine. That being said, water is probably the worst – in the 5% (unsuccessful liquid damage repairs), they were almost all water based spills.

However, recently the site has undergone changes – I shouldn’t say changes…I should say it’s become overrun with (undercover) adverts. Sorry Digg, but I deleted your bookmark from my bookmarks toolbar today. It’s the first that I’ve deleted in quite a while, and although I’m sad to see you go, I know it’s for the best. I even owned a Digg shirt and (two) Digg hats – They were part of my typical routine until today. Take care. RIP buddy.

Most of the work that we do here at CompuTechs+ includes computer repair, laptop repair, apple repair, pc repair, mac repair, lcd repair, motherboard repair, power jack repair, dc jack repair, and the like. But CompuTechs+ of Chicago also includes data recovery, apple data recovery, mac data recovery, or recovery on some medium. However, we do get the occasional call from businesses & savvy individuals that need their data to be destroyed. How should one go about destroying the data on their hard drive?

There are many different data destruction methods out there, but one must first consider why and how they want this data destroyed. If you are reselling a computer, you will probably want to wipe the hard drive clean (and NO, formatting a hard drive will NOT wipe all, actually almost no data at all, from the storage device), and reinstall the OS to sell the computer. If you are a business, you will probably want to destroy the data to reuse the drive, or resell the drive. Large corporations and Government agencies, however, prefer to wipe the data (8x) from the drives, and then physically destroy the hard drive, and finally incinerating the hard drive’s contents.

Divorces: This is by far our largest request for both recovery and destruction. A person who is going through a divorce needs to either cover his/her tracks, or bring evidence to light. Either way, destruction comes in many shapes and sizes, as does data recovery.

CompuTechs+ of Chicago uses the most advanced DoD (Department of Defense) standards for data destruction. CompuTechs+ of Chicago also supports emergency destruction, in case you need to destroy data manually, and fast. Depending on your circumstance, we have many different data destruction options available. The destruction method CompuTechs+ wipes the drive clean 8x (per destruction), with a random array of values. This means that your data is gone for good. We also support physical damage & destruction as well as incineration.
